A team of soldiers from the Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF), along with representatives from Fiji, Samoa, and police forces from Kiribati and the Solomon Islands, participated in a logistics operations training session funded by the Australian government under the Pacific Security Program.
The training, which has been ongoing in Port Moresby for the past two months, aims to enhance the capabilities of these security forces in disaster management. Last Friday, the participants visited Leon Hardware’s warehouse, including its retail shop at Seven-Mile, as part of their practical training.
During the tour, Leon Hardware’s general manager, Kenny Bao, provided insights into the company's procurement processes, detailing how materials are sourced internationally and distributed throughout Papua New Guinea. He explained the logistics of reaching various centers and the delivery timeframes.
The ADF training team emphasized that this session focused on disaster logistics, highlighting the importance of rapidly acquiring supplies from various suppliers. The officers admired Leon Hardware's operational database and efficiency, noting it as a valuable example for the trainees. The soldiers actively engaged by asking numerous questions about the logistics processes demonstrated during the visit.
