As military tensions escalate between Israel and Iran, concerns have grown globally over potential disruptions to the oil supply chain, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime route. However, on June 22, 2025, India's Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, assured citizens that India's fuel supply remains stable and secure, thanks to robust supply chain management strategies and diversified procurement. India has significantly reduced its reliance on Middle Eastern oil, increasing crude oil imports from other regions particularly Russian crude. This strategic move strengthens India's electronic supply chain management and provides insulation from region-specific risks. Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) across India maintain several weeks’ worth of fuel stocks, showcasing strong supply chain demand planning to handle any unexpected disruption. Crude oil is being sourced through various international supply chain routes, reducing India’s dependence on single choke points like the Strait of Hormuz. India is actively negotiating with global oil suppliers and exploring digital supply chain solutions to ensure continuity. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also held discussions with the Iranian President, signaling India's proactive supply chain management development program and geopolitical readiness. As the world’s third-largest oil importer and consumer, India currently sources less than 50% of its daily 4.8 million barrels from the Middle East. This significantly lowers the country's exposure to regional oil volatility. With a sharp pivot toward non-Middle Eastern sources, especially Russia, India is strengthening its position in SCM (Supply Chain Management) and safeguarding energy security through future supply chain tracking and innovation.
