Dutch engineering firm Van Halteren Technologies (VHT) has been selected by Damen Naval to provide specialized systems for the upcoming Anti-Submarine Warfare Frigates (ASWF), being developed for the Royal Netherlands Navy and Belgian Navy. Known for its expertise in defense and industrial solutions, VHT was chosen for its strong track record, including the recent successful Replenishment at Sea (RAS) trials for the Combat Support Ship Den Helder. For the ASWF program, VHT will supply its customizable RAS systems and helicopter transfer systems (HTS), designed for both manned and unmanned aircraft. These systems are built to perform reliably under demanding naval conditions. “This partnership helps us deliver a future-proof platform that enhances European security and cooperation,” said Fer Tummers, ASWF Project Director at Damen. Charles Simons of VHT added that the project showcases VHT’s drive and control technology capabilities. Damen has also contracted Dutch firm Newthex to deliver fully integrated custom shell doors, including hydraulic and electrical systems. Set to replace the aging Karel Doorman-class, the ASWF vessels will feature cutting-edge sonar, stealth technology, and multi-role capabilities—ranging from anti-submarine warfare to maritime security. The first frigate is expected to be delivered in 2028.
